Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Speed Alert, a service that measures vehicle speed from video recorded by Ring cameras you choose to connect. Please read them; they are short.
1. Agreement and acceptance
By connecting a camera, signing in, or subscribing, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. You must be at least 18 and the owner or authorised user of the Ring account and cameras you connect.
2. Description of the service
Speed Alert receives vehicle motion events and short recordings from the Ring cameras you select, estimates the speed of each passing vehicle, and shows the results on a dashboard with charts by time of day. When a vehicle crosses the alert line you set, it can email you with a short marked-up clip. Every reading is an estimate with a stated likely range. Readings are provided for awareness and neighbourhood advocacy only; they are not measurements of legal standing and must not be used as evidence of any offence, to confront drivers, or as the basis of a claim.
3. Your responsibilities
- Connect only cameras you own or are authorised to use, and comply with the laws on recording that apply where the camera is.
- Keep your sign-in email secure. Anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
- Provide accurate information, and tell us promptly at support@speedalertapp.com if you believe your account has been misused.
- Understand that the service depends on your camera’s placement, lighting and recording settings, and will miss some vehicles and misjudge some speeds.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Speed Alert to:
- identify, track, harass, intimidate or confront any person, or attempt to determine who was driving a vehicle;
- read licence plates, recognise faces, or combine our data with other sources to identify people;
- record areas you are not entitled to record, or share results in ways that violate someone’s privacy or the law;
- interfere with the service, probe or overload its systems, or access other customers’ data;
- resell, scrape or redistribute the service or its output without our written permission.
We may suspend or end accounts used in these ways.
5. Data practices
What we collect, how we use it, how long we keep it, who processes it for us, and how you delete it are set out in full in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: recordings are analysed and deleted within about a minute; we keep one small picture and a reading per vehicle, and a short clip only for vehicles over your alert line; we do not read plates, recognise faces, sell data, share it between households, or train AI models on it; you can delete everything from your dashboard at any time.
6. Intellectual property
The Speed Alert software, website, design, name and logo are ours. We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the service while you have an account. Your recordings remain yours, and the readings, pictures and clips we derive from them are provided to you for your own use. “Ring” and “Amazon” are trademarks of their owners; Speed Alert is an independent product and not affiliated with either.
7. Third-party services
Speed Alert depends on Ring’s services and your Ring subscription for recordings, and on the providers named in the privacy policy for hosting, storage and email. Your use of Ring is governed by Ring’s own terms. We are not responsible for outages, changes or limits in those services, and features may be unavailable when they are.
8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Speed readings are estimates and may be wrong; missed vehicles and incorrect readings will occur. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the service, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.
9. Subscriptions, termination and deletion
Speed Alert costs $2.99 per month, billed through Ring after any trial Ring offers. You can cancel at any time in the Ring app under My Apps; access continues until the end of the paid month, and partial months are not refunded. You may delete your account and all of your data at any time from the dashboard, or by emailing support; removing Speed Alert in the Ring app also stops all processing, and your data is erased automatically 30 days later. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms, and may discontinue the service with at least 30 days’ notice, in which case we delete your data.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will email you at least 14 days before they take effect and note the change on this page. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept the new terms; if you do not, cancel and delete your account before then.
