Speed Alert measures how fast vehicles move in video recorded by the Ring cameras you choose to connect. This page says exactly what we receive, what we do with it, how long we keep it, who else touches it, and how you delete it.

What we receive from Ring

When you connect Speed Alert in the Ring app, Ring lets us: receive a notification when a selected camera detects motion (the event id, the camera id, the time, and Ring’s motion type such as vehicle or person); download the recorded video around that moment; and read basic device information (camera name, type, and whether it is online). Ring also tells us the state of your Speed Alert subscription: whether it is a trial or paid, and when it started and ends. Ring sends no payment details. We never receive your Ring password, your address, or your camera’s location, and we do not ask for live view.

What we do with it

Each vehicle event triggers one job: download a short clip (about 25 seconds, at reduced resolution), find the moving vehicles in it, and estimate each one’s speed from how fast it crosses the picture. The result is a reading per vehicle: time, direction, vehicle type (car, truck, bus, motorcycle), the estimated speed with a likely range, and one small picture. Readings power your dashboard, its charts, and the alerts you choose to receive. We do not read license plates, recognise faces or people, identify anyone, or look anything up about a vehicle. We also do not compare vehicles between events: each car is measured on its own, and nothing recognises a vehicle as one that has passed before. Speed Alert learns the scale of your street from the sizes of the vehicles it has already measured; that is per-camera calibration, not a model trained on your footage.

AI and automated processing

Vehicle detection uses a general-purpose, publicly available object-detection model trained on public datasets before we ever saw your data. We do not train, fine-tune, or evaluate any AI model, ours or a third party’s, on Ring data or on anything derived from it, and we do not send your footage to any AI service. Because no training happens, there is nothing to opt out of and no feature that changes if you decline. We do not derive biometric data, health information, precise location, or any sensitive personal characteristics from Ring data.

What we keep, and for how long

• The downloaded clip: deleted as soon as its analysis finishes, usually within a minute. We do not keep your recordings.
• One thumbnail per measured vehicle (a single reduced-size frame) and the reading itself: kept while your account exists.
• A short marked-up clip showing the measured speed, only for vehicles over your alert line: kept while your account exists.
• A full-resolution copy of a moment, only when you tap “Original from Ring”: deleted automatically after 7 days.
• Technical analysis details (where the vehicle was in each frame): reduced to summaries after 30 days.
• Our own working copies on the machine that measures your clips (a frame and the measurements): deleted after 3 days.
• Anything nothing refers to any more, for example the pictures of a car we later merged with another reading: deleted within the hour.
• Event notifications from Ring: deleted after 30 days.
• Your email address, camera list, and settings: kept while your account exists.

These deletions run automatically every hour. When you delete your account, everything above is removed at once (see below).

Who else handles your data

We do not sell data, share it with advertisers, or share it between households. The only other parties are the services that run Speed Alert:

• Supabase (United States): database, sign-in, and file storage for thumbnails and clips.
• Vercel (United States): hosts this website and receives Ring’s event notifications.
• Hetzner (Finland, European Union): the server that downloads and analyses clips. Clips pass through it for about a minute and are not stored there.
• Resend (United States): sends sign-in links and alert emails.

Each is bound by its own data-processing terms and handles data only to provide its service to us.

People looking at your data

If you ask for help from the dashboard, we keep your message with a snapshot of your cameras’ status at that moment (online, recent clips and errors, settings) so we can answer it; it is deleted with your account. Speed Alert runs without anyone watching. A person on our side may view a thumbnail, a clip, or a reading only to investigate a support request you made or a measurement problem, and never for any other reason. No one else has access.

Your controls

• See everything: your dashboard lists every measured vehicle with its picture and clip.
• Alerts: each camera has a switch for alert emails on the dashboard; alert lines, limits, and units are yours to set.
• Cameras: choose which cameras Speed Alert can see in the Ring app, and change it there any time.
• Disconnect: remove Speed Alert from My Apps in the Ring app and we can no longer fetch anything.
• Delete your account: the “Delete my account and data” button at the bottom of your dashboard erases your readings, pictures, clips, cameras, settings, and sign-in immediately. Copies in backups expire within 30 days. You can also email support@speedalertapp.com to request deletion or a copy of your data; we answer within one business day and complete requests within 30 days.

When our detection changes

Every reading shows its likely range, so you always see how sure we are. When we change how detection or measurement works, or what it can and cannot see, we post it on the changelog and, for changes that affect what you receive, email you before they take effect.
